Planning Your Wedding in Northern Ireland? Here’s Where to Start
First of all — congratulations! You’re engaged, and life is wonderful. But if you’ve already opened a few wedding planning tabs and felt that familiar mix of excitement and mild panic, you’re in very good company.
At Perfect Day, we’ve been helping brides across Northern Ireland for over 20 years. We’ve seen thousands of brides walk through our doors — some with a clear vision, some with no idea where to begin — and we’ve guided every single one of them. So consider this your friendly, no-fuss guide to getting started.
The Northern Ireland Wedding Supplier Checklist
Every wedding needs a brilliant team behind it. Here’s who to book, and roughly in what order:
1. Wedding Dress Boutique Your dress is the heart of your whole look — and it takes longer to organise than almost anything else on this list. Book your bridal appointment early, ideally as soon as you have a rough wedding date in mind. (More on why below!)
2. Venue Your venue sets the tone for your entire day — the guest list, the vibe, the date. The most popular venues in Northern Ireland book up 18 months to 2 years in advance, so this one needs to be near the top of your list.
3. Photographer The best photographers get snapped up fast. Once your date and venue are confirmed, start reaching out to photographers whose style you love.
Don’t leave this one too long — you’ll regret it!
4. Florist Your flowers should complement your dress and colour palette, so it really helps to have your dress sorted before you sit down with a florist. Share your dress photos and let the magic happen.
5. Hair & Makeup Artist A great bridal hair and makeup artist will want to do a trial run before the big day — so book early to secure your date and allow time for that trial session.
6. Wedding Cake This is one of the most enjoyable bookings to make (hello, tasting sessions!). Allow plenty of time for design consultations and tastings so you can get exactly what you want.
7. Wedding Cars Whether you’re dreaming of a classic vintage car or a sleek modern arrival, the best wedding cars get reserved well in advance. Book once your venue and date are confirmed.
Why Your Wedding Dress Should Be Your Very First Booking
Here’s something we tell every bride who comes through our door — and it genuinely surprises a lot of them:
Your wedding dress needs more time than almost anything else.
Most wedding dresses are made to order. That means once you fall in love with your gown, it’s crafted especially for you — and that process typically takes 3 to 9 months. Then add in time for alterations, which usually take around 8 to 12 weeks before your wedding day.
Put that together, and you’re looking at ordering your dress at least 9 to 12 months before your wedding — ideally even earlier if you want to feel relaxed and unhurried.
Leaving it late doesn’t just add stress. It can limit your choices, rush the alteration process, and take away the joy of the whole experience. And you deserve to enjoy every single moment of finding your dress.
There are certainly alternatives for brides who are organising their wedding in less than 6mths, off the peg dresses, rush delivery and ordering a bridesmaids dress in ivory ( quicker delivery and cheaper alternative)
There’s another reason the dress comes first: it influences everything else.
• Your flowers should complement your dress style and silhouette
• Your bridesmaids’ colours are chosen around your gown
• Your accessories, veil, and shoes all work with the dress you’ve chosen
Once you’ve said yes to the dress, so much else falls beautifully into place.
